Liza Giles
Paintings that ask you to reconnect with instinct.
Liza Giles paints in a visual language drawn from urban form and architectural landscape, distilling those elements down to presence, essence and emotion.
Constrained by a small studio, she works across multiple canvases joined into large-scale compositions. Spontaneous brushstrokes are applied to raw panels that stay in a state of constant flux — flipped, rotated and reconfigured until an unexpected but cohesive composition emerges.
The contrast between precise, hard-edged line and expressive, instinctive mark-making generates a tension between shapes, and an interplay of push and pull between positive and negative space.
Her paintings are held in private collections across the USA, Japan, Europe, Hong Kong, Australia, Brazil, South Africa, China, Peru and the UK.
